Clinical professor in Nuclear Medicine & Neuroscience 962231

A position as clinical professor in Clinical Physiology & Nuclear Medicine, Aarhus University Hospital and affiliated to the Department of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at Aarhus University is vacant from 1st of July or by agreement. The position requires concurrent employment as consultant at the Department of Nuclear Medicine & PET Centre, Aarhus University Hospital, and candidates without such position must also apply for the announced position as consultant at the department. The Department of Nuclear Medicine & PET Centre, AUH, is a university hospital department with teaching- and research obligations at Aarhus University, Faculty of Health Sciences. The department includes 3 sections, two currently located on Nørrebrogade, and one at Skejby Hospital. Within 1-2 years the department will be fused and moved to the new Skejby Hospital. The department is among the largest Nuclear Medicine departments in Denmark and carries out clinical diagnostic examinations and therapies in collaboration with clinical departments in Central Region Denmark. The department has at its disposal 5 PET/CT cameras, 1 brain-dedicated research PET scanner, 4 SPECT/CT cameras, a rodent PET/MRI system, 2 cyclotrons, radiochemistry and laboratory facilities for tissue and fluid studies and autoradiography.

In 2016, more than 10.000 PET/CT examinations were performed, and in addition 1.000 PET and SPECT studies of patients with brain diseases. The department has a longstanding tradition for interdisciplinary research in neurological disorders, oncology, nephro-urology, endocrinology, hepatology and inflammation. In addition, the work- and research environment is highly multi-disciplinary with close collaboration with the resident radiochemists, physicist and computer engineers. The department endeavors to perform basic-, translational-, and clinical research in accordance with our motto from molecule to man.

Qualifications
The department wishes to recruit a candidate, who is a qualified and registered specialist in Clinical Physiology and Nuclear Medicine. The applicant must have expertise within neurology and neuroscience, including an independent research profile at high international level. In addition, experience as a research leader and with teaching is expected.

The department has close collaboration with departments of neurology and neurosurgery concerning diagnostic procedures of patients with neurodegenerative brain disorders and brain tumors. It is expected that the number of clinical examinations of brain disorders will significantly expand in the coming years as new PET tracers become available. In addition, introduction of PET/MR scanners, which are particularly relevant for diagnostics of brain disorders, requires a high level of expertise within advanced MR and PET analyses. The clinical professor will be responsible for implementing and developing these areas in clinical diagnostics and for research.

The clinical professor is, along with the other professors at the department, responsible for pre- and post-graduate teaching of medical students and doctors. It is expected that the clinical professor has documented clinical and research experience at a high level, is ambitious and has clear and visible skills of communication and leadership.

The position as clinical professor will hold a split post consisting of 50% clinical work and 50% university related academic work and research. The functions are described in the agreement between Aarhus University and Central Denmark Region: “Aftale om professorer ved hospitalerne i Aarhus Universitetshospital – ansættelsesforhold, ansvar og opgaver”. It is also mandatory that applicants display proficiency in the “seven roles of physicians” (https://www.sst.dk/en/news/2013/the-seven-roles-of-physicians).

In making the appointment, emphasis will be placed on the extent, quality and originality of the applicant’s body of international scientific publications, including contributions to further developing the subject area in question. Kvalifikationskrav

Ved besættelse af stillingen vil der blive lagt vægt på, om ansøgeren har dokumenteret høj grad af original videnskabelig produktion på internationalt niveau, herunder bidraget til videreudvikling af fagområdet. Hertil kommer en vurdering af vedkommendes evne til varetagelse af forskningsledelse.
