Research Assistant in neuroscience lab at DANDRITE, Aarhus University 964833

We are looking for a motivated and skilled Research Assistant at DANDRITE, the Danish Research Institute of Translational Neuroscience at Aarhus University. The position is a full-time position with 37 hours per week.

The working place
The position is joint between the Philipsborn and Kvitsiani laboratories at DANDRITE, initially on a 6 months fixed-term. In case further funding is secured within the academic area, the candidate is assessed obviously qualified for an extension, which is possible for up to 3 years of employment as research assistant. At DANDRITE, we are international labs with a friendly atmosphere. The working language is English. DANDRITE is the Danish node of the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine. DANDRITE was established by Lundbeckfonden and Aarhus University in 2013 and performs basic and translational  research in brain and the nervous system. DANDRITE is an interdisciplinary research centre affiliated with two faculties at Aarhus University, the Faculty of Health and the Faculty of Science and Technology. The centre has ties to Aarhus University Hospital.

Job responsibilities
Your responsibilities will be assisting researchers in conducting behavioural experiments with fruitflies (Drosophila), MATLAB-based data analysis and construction of experimental setups (involving 3D printing and simple electronics). Depending on experience, skill and interest, you might also carry out an independent part of a research project addressing the neuroscience of reward signaling during reproductive behaviour.

The successful candidate has a Bachelor or Master degree in Life Sciences or Engineering and knowledge of MATLAB. Previous experience in Drosophila culture, animal behaviour and neuroscience is of advantage, but not necessarily required. We are looking for a responsible, independent and reliable person who works effectively and with care.

Interviews will take place in week 12 and/or 13 and the starting date can be as soon as possible, e.g. April 1st 2018.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
