Senior Researcher in Seed Science and Physiology 982564

Aarhus University (AU), Science and Technology invites applications for a senior researcher position in the Department of Agroecology, starting as soon as possible. The place of work will be AU-Flakkebjerg, DK-4200 Slagelse, Denmark.

Research area
A key factor that contributes to the enhancement of crop yield and global food production is the quality of seeds. Seeds carry the results of genetic improvement of crops but are also vital for the ex situ conservation of old and new genotypes in genebanks. This position is focused on increasing the understanding of how seed quality (germination ability, longevity and vigour) is influenced by management, climatic and environmental effects during seed production, processing and storage.

The department is conducting research on the development of bio-production systems as for example methods for biorefining and development of high-value products based on green crops as for example grass and clover species. In order to optimise the bio-production and decrease potential loss of nutrients it is relevant to study seed quality parameters and seed treatments which enhance germination and crop establishment.

The successful person will be expected to lead research that combines traditional physiological experiments with novel analytical methods. A good understanding of relevant statistical methods will be important.

We are looking for a highly motivated person who is interested in establishing and developing this field of research. The project will be carried out as part of ”Climate-Smart Agri-Food Systems” and in close collaboration with the scientific teams within the department sections, industrial partners and a network of international scientists. Experience and success in attracting external funding will be an advantage.

Required qualifications
- Relevant academic education from a university or academic institution.
- PhD degree in plant biology or agronomy, with emphasis on seed science and physiology.
- Competences and experience in seed quality, longevity, storage behaviour, dormancy/germination and data analysis would be an advantage.
- Proven publication record in international peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience in international research collaboration and networking.
- Supervision of students (at master and PhD level).
