Advanced Methods and Techniques in Plant Science and Biotechnology
ECTS: 5. Niveau: Kandidat. Dato: 19.-30. august (Written exam should be handed in online or per mail 2 weeks after the course). Sted: Flakkeberg.
The Danish and global plant production is facing major challenges. The rapid population growth, the increased consumption of animal products and the use of crops for energy purposes demand an increased production. Plant biotechnology is expected to play a major role in meeting the demands created by this scenario through knowledge on plant genomes, advanced molecular breeding and development of genetic modified organisms (GMO). The course will cover state of the art techniques and methods within plant biotechnology research, including the genetic basis of several important plant properties and the use of molecular genetics and genetically modified organisms (GMO). Kursus udbudt af Institut for Molekylærbiologi og Genetik. Kursusbeskrivelse.

Introduction to Using C. Elegans as Model Organism in Biomedical Research
ECTS: 5. Niveau: Kandidat. Dato: 5.-21. august. Sted: Aarhus.
The small soil nematode Carnorhabditis elegans is a popular genetic model organism used in laboratories worldwide to study complex biological processes such as for example aging, apoptosis and neurobiology. The course will provide a practical introduction to using C. elegans in biomedical research. The course participants will have hands on experience with popular techniques such as RNAi, genetic crosses, transgenic and GFP reporter strains. Furthermore, the course participants will be able to inactive their own gene of interest in C. elegans using RNAi. Thus, during the course the participants will not only be familiarized with using C. elegans as model organism but also be able to evaluate if C. elegans can be used to advance their own ongoing and future studies. Several internationally renowned C. elegans researcher will be invited to give seminars complementing the practical parts of the course. Kursus udbudt af Institut for Molekylærbiologi og Genetik. Mitochondria in Aging and Disease
ECTS: 5. Niveau: Kandidat. Dato: 8.-19. juli (Written exam can be handed in per mail). Sted: Aarhus.
The course will cover a broad range of aspects of mitochondrial function and biology. It will introduce the students to the current knowledge on mitochondria metabolism and especially emphasize the involvement of mitochondrial dysfunction in disease processes as well as the aging process. The role of mitochondria in oxidative stress will be presented and mitochondrial maintenance mechanisms, mitochondrial dynamics, specific mitochondrial proteins and the mitochondrial proteome will be discussed. Finally, various methods for studying mitochondria and their functions will be presented and the applicability of the methods will be discussed. Kursus udbudt af Institut for Molekylærbiologi og Genetik. Informationsbrochure. Kursusbeskrivelse.
