Profile

I am a trained occupational therapist, hold a Master of Science in Health Science (cand.scient.san), and a PhD. I am employed as a Senior Researcher at DEFACTUM and the Department of Social Medicine and Rehabilitation at Gødstrup Hospital. My primary focus has been on oncology and the intersection between rehabilitation and palliative care.

Research

My research focuses on developing and evaluating complex interventions in palliative care, rehabilitation, and social medicine. It emphasizes individuals' everyday lives, including self-care, leisure, and work, particularly for young adult cancer survivors aged 18 to 39.

My research aims to improve rehabilitation opportunities for individuals with disabilities and those undergoing social medicine interventions, enhancing functioning, quality of life, and participation. This involves developing personalized interventions that consider physical, psychological, and social aspects of rehabilitation.

Teaching activities

I have experience teaching master's students to develop and evaluate complex rehabilitation and public health interventions. I also lecture about rehabilitation, with a particular focus on individuals with life-threatening illnesses. I supervise master's and PhD students. My teaching philosophy is based on active learning, as the best learning outcomes are achieved when students actively engage in the instruction.

Collaborations

I collaborate with the Center for Cancer and Health, Copenhagen Municipality, and Public Health at Aarhus Municipality on rehabilitation for young adult cancer survivors. Additionally, I work with three West Jutland municipalities—Lemvig, Ringkøbing-Skjern, and Holstebro—on rehabilitation for citizens on sick leave due to low back pain. I have an ongoing collaboration with NeuroFaglig Arbejdsrehabilitering in Holbæk Municipality to describe and evaluate their practices. I also collaborate with the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment (STAR). Collectively, these efforts aim to develop and implement effective rehabilitation initiatives that support better daily and working lives. I also engage in national collaborations with social medicine departments on practice-oriented research projects and maintain close cooperation with occupational therapy researchers at the University of Southern Denmark.

I am a member of NAYACare, a Danish research network focusing on improving care and rehabilitation for young adult cancer survivors. Additionally, I am part of Youth Cancer Europe, a pan-European organization working to enhance the rights and quality of life for young cancer survivors across Europe.

Furthermore, I am involved with the EAPC Task Force in Rehabilitation in Palliative Care, which promotes rehabilitation as an integral component of palliative care for individuals with life-threatening illnesses.

Job responsibilities

I lead interdisciplinary research on rehabilitation and public health. I head the YATAC (2024–2027) project, developing and evaluating a rehabilitation program for young adult cancer survivors, and the WORK-IT-OUT (2024–2027) project, which focuses on rehabilitation for individuals on sick leave due to low-back pain. I also oversee the ADL-Q project (2024–2025), assessing activities of daily living in Danish Social Medicine Departments. My experience encompasses research leadership, securing funding, and managing interdisciplinary collaborations.

I serve as the secretary for Rehabiliteringsforum Danmark, a non-profit association aiming to create a network around rehabilitation in Denmark.
