A post-doctoral research position in Electrochemical Biosensors for clinical diagnosis of cancer is available at the iNANO center, Aarhus University, Denmark, starting from at earliest 01 May 2021.

The postdoc position is for 1 year of employment and with the possibility of an extension.

The work aims at clinical validation of non-invasive liquid biopsy tests for cancer biomarkers, analytical validation of the developed bioelectronic immune-tests and their further adaptation for lateral-flow immunoassays for POCT. Our aim is to complement radiological screenings and the histological and histochemical tests for cancers patients requiring life-long follow-up screenings, for whom a risk of not detecting all reoccurring tumors exists. The work is performed in a very close collaboration with the Aarhus University Hospital and is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

iNANO (www.inano.dk) was established in 2002 and at present is a major research and education center based at Aarhus University hosting 60 senior scientists, ~100 postdocs and ~120 PhD students. The center combines expertise and faculty from physics, chemistry, molecular biology and medicine to carry out world-class interdisciplinary research in nanoscience and nanotechnology. The center gives access to a broad range of infrastructure, tools and expertise including clean-room facilities. In addition to the basic research, the center has a large number of ongoing industrial projects and partnerships.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND & QUALIFICATIONS
The applicant should have a PhD in Electrochemistry/Electroanalytical Chemistry or equivalent;
The applicant should have a strong record of research productivity and creativity;
The applicant should be experienced in electrochemistry and electrochemical methods; analytical chemistry and statistical analysis of the data;
The applicant should show a good expert knowledge of bioconjugation methods and electrochemical biosensor development supported by a successful and documented scientific record;
An expertise in lateral flow analytical systems, enzymology, or molecular biology techniques (e.g. protein and DNA/RNA extraction and modification) will be considered as an added advantage.
The applicant should have an innovative and flexible mind-set being able to convert theory into practical solutions for the biosensor development and thrive in a collaboration with other experts;
The applicant should have excellent language skills in English both orally and written and high degree of computer literacy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
As a postdoc you will be a part of the research and development of the clinical assay and technical implementation of the developed solution, which will include work within the following areas:
  • Completing and validation of the biosensor for cancer diagnosis;
  • Its analytical testing, documentation and compliance;
  • Clinical validation of the liquid biopsy tests by correlating results of serum analysis with data from solid biopsies/radiological screening;
  • Reports and manuscripts preparation; communication of the results to research community;
  • At a later stage, communicating results to the innovation technologies funding bodies and companies.
  • Assistance in guiding undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as taking on some laboratory management duties.

Application procedure

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range

Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
