The Department of Management at Aarhus University, invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral position offering applicants an exciting opportunity to join a new research project on the role of attention in decision making.

The starting date is 1st December 2019 or subject to mutual agreement.

The research project
This project is funded by the Independent Research Fund (https://dff.dk/en/grants/research-leaders-2018/jacob-l-orquin?set_language=en) and will combine theories from vision science and decision making, to develop a model of visual attention and decision making. The project will also explore how merely looking more or less at a choice option can change our preference for that option. The resulting theory will be able to explain, for instance, which products consumers look at and which ones they ignore and use this to better predict consumer choices. The project will contribute to basic research by developing a theory and model of a) eye movements in decision making, explaining how consideration sets are formed and b) how consumer choices result from application of preferences to consideration sets. Furthermore, the project will contribute to public policy by providing a process-oriented and predictive alternative to current choice models. The project has several international collaborators including Ray Dolan and Hrvoje Stojic at University College London, and Peter M. Todd at Indiana University.

Job description
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the overall objectives of the project by being involved in all phases of the project, including formulating research questions, experimental designs, analyses, and writing articles. The position is research-oriented, but may involve teaching assignments depending on the interests of the candidate. The position is for 2 years with possibility of extension. The candidate will collaborate with a small team of international project partners, but also interact with a larger group of about ten colleagues who work in the intersection between cognitive science and management research. Lab equipment and facilities are available as well as funds for experiments, student assistants, conference travels, seminars etc.

Candidates must hold a PhD relevant to the academic areas of the project and have experience with data analysis and programming of experiments in at least one programming language such as R, Python, or Matlab. Experience with decision making, eye tracking, and computational modeling is desirable.
