Postdoc position in pDC biology and cancer at the Department of Biomedicine, Aarhus University, Denmark

A fully funded 3-year postdoctoral position in the field of pDC, gene-editing and cancer cell-based vaccine technology is available from February 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter, in the lab of associate professor Martin R Jakobsen, Department of Biomedicine, Aarhus University, Denmark.

The group
The MRJ laboratory was initiated in 2013 and currently consists of 6 postdocs, 3 PhD students and several undergraduate students. The group has expertise in innate immunity and plasmacytoid dendritic cells with a particular focus towards cancer. We study the general aspects of how the innate immune system can be modulated in order to attack tumor cells. Here, one of our recent assets has been the development of a human pDC technology based on hematopoietic stem cells. We use this technology to develop genetically engineered pDC for biological studies, focusing on preclinical therapeutic purposes including the development of a pDC cancer vaccine.
The laboratory techniques range from human cell culture assays, western blotting, flow cytometry, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing in stem-cells, in vivo mouse models and the generation of humanized mice. The group is well funded through large research grants received from various Danish foundations.

The project
For this project we seek a highly qualified and dedicated postdoc that will focus on the therapeutic potential of using pDCs as both i) a direct anti-cancer killing cell as well as ii) an anti-cancer vaccine by inducing an anti-tumor response. The project aims to address how well suited HPSC-pDCs are for antigen uptake and whether HPSC-pDCs can be used in conjunction with NK cells to kill tumor cells. The candidate will work on exploring the capacity of our pDC technology in close collaboration with other team members, where the overall aim is to explore different areas of pDC biology and their therapeutic potential in cancer and viral infections.

We seek a highly motivated candidate with a solid background in genetics, pDC biology and/or immunology. Expertise in standard molecular biology techniques and cell culture is critical, and experience with gene editing, flow cytometry, mouse cancer models, NK cells and DC antigen uptake/response is highly desirable. The candidate is required to have strong skills in English and proven abilities to publish at a high international level with at least one first author publication. Motivation to work independently and be responsible for the daily management of his/her research project in coordination with other members of the group is expected. The candidate will also be actively involved in the training and co-supervision of other group members and students.
