Associate professor at the Centre for Health Sciences Education 863853

A full-time position as Associate Professor starting January 1, 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter is available at the Undergraduate Unit of the Centre for Health Sciences Education. 

We are looking for a versatile scholar with experience in designing, implementing and publishing research using a variety of research designs and methods within the area of evaluation-related research in undergraduate higher education, e.g. admissions tests and formative and summative tests and exams. Preference will be accorded to scholars with specific skills within psychometrics. The ideal candidate has demonstrated ability to initiate his/her own research and to collaborate with colleagues from different backgrounds. Ability to teach theory and methods within the domain of evaluation research is a definite asset. Applicants must have a PhD in a discipline relevant to health sciences education and be eligible for academic appointment to the rank of Associate Professor. 

The Position
The Associate Professor is expected to develop and lead an internationally recognised scholarly program of research and development within the area of educational measurement and assessment related to undergraduate health sciences education. The incumbent will provide mentorship for colleagues, health professional students and graduate students. 

The Associate Professor will contribute to strengthen and develop the quality of the undergraduate health sciences programs in accordance with the policy and strategies of Faculty of Health and take a leadership role in the advancement of evaluation practices in the undergraduate programs in collaboration with the program directors and committees and faculty members. The incumbent is expected to contribute to the faculty development program offered by the Centre of Health Sciences Education. 

Responsibilities and duties
The Associate Professor will refer to the head of the Undergraduate Unit at the Centre. Responsibilities and duties include:
• Leading a research program relevant to the undergraduate education at Faculty of Health
• Apply for and receive funding for research and other activities
• Provide mentorship to PhD students, staff and faculty members
• Publish and communicate widely the results of research investigations in peer-reviewed journals, at national and international scientific meetings and conferences as well as contributing to communicating results in the public press
• Participate in research networking and dissemination both locally and internationally
• Contribute to research-based development and quality assurance of the undergraduate programs at Faculty of Health in collaboration with staff and faculty members
• Contribute to the Centre’s faculty develop program and other teaching activities related to topics of higher education teaching, learning, and evaluation

The successful candidate
• Must be eligible for academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor
• Holds a PhD within higher education, psychology or related discipline with application to educational measurement, assessment and/or psychometrics
• Has a strong background in the technical aspects of statistics and psychometrics
• Is an experienced educational developer
• Is a skilled educator and has extensive teaching experience
• Has an established publication record at international level within research in educational measurement and assessment
• Has demonstrated capability in fundraising
• Has demonstrated collaboration and communication skills with colleagues from diverse backgrounds
Candidates with experience within health sciences education will be preferred. 

About us
The Centre of Health Sciences Education has two units: An Undergraduate Unit in health sciences education and a Postgraduate Unit in medical education. In addition, the Centre has a close collaboration with the regional simulation centre and educational centres at other Faculties at Aarhus University. The Undergraduate Unit of Centre for Health Sciences Education conducts educational research and provides service to the programs of Faculty of Health. This includes offering courses to faculty members, participating in quality assurance activities, assisting in the development and revision of educational programs and being a central partner in relation to Educational IT at Faculty of Health.

The Centre for Health Sciences Education is located at Palle Juul-Jensens Boulevard 82, DK-8200 Arhus N, Denmark. Required qualifications

Appointment as an associate professor requires research and teaching qualifications at such level as can be attained following a satisfactory period of appointment as an assistant professor, but which could also be achieved otherwise. It is assumed that applicants have received supervision and training in university education and have received a positive written assessment of their teaching qualifications.

A maximum of ten of the publications of greatest relevance to the job must be submitted.
