Day one of the OPEN COST Action Annual Conference in Pilsen

The first day of the annual conference offered keynotes by OPEN chair Katja Brøgger and Vice Chair Hannah Moscovitz, Petr Jurek from the University of West Bohemia and a roundtable discussion chaired by Andrea Pető.

On April 29, OPEN COST Action Chair Katja Brøgger and Vice Chair Hannah Moscovitz initiated the conference with the timely keynote presentation ‘Academic freedom in European Higher Education. Colliding Freedoms, politicization and co-optation’, where they highlighted how the capture and weaponization of free speech risk eroding academic freedom.

Following the opening keynote, Petr Jurek who heads the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen held a keynote on how to ensure open and inclusive universities under the condition of increasing polarization in society and politics.

After the keynotes, OPEN member professor Andrea Peto chaired a roundtable discussion aimed at establishing a permanent infrastructure for supporting academics in Europe.
