Adil is woking on quantifying greenhouse gas emissions from deep litter systems. Deep litter is a system of animal housing and waste management whereby animals are housed on a layer of bedding material onto which excreta are directly deposited and are retained for several months. A deep layer can accumualte from which methane and nitrous oxide emissions can occur, both of which are potent greenhouse gases. Adil is working to devise a method of flux quantification from the deep litter surface.
