Purpose and description of the position:

Sun lab studies the cell biology of neuronal synapses. The position will engage in research activities that support a research project supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. This person hired will carry out lab management, routine laboratory tasks, and participate in a multi-lab operation of preparing and maintaining primary neuron cultures.


Tasks:

•Independent dissection of rat pup, and preparation and maintenance of primary rat neuron cultures up to once per week with staff support at Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MBG) and other departments 
•Preparation of conditioned media for neuron cultures
•Maintenance of the cell culture room
•Cloning and genetic work
•Biochemistry including western blotting, subcellular fractionation.
•Basic microscopy
•Maintenance of the antibody and plasmid library
•Maintenance of basic buffers and stock solutions
•Purchasing and invoices
•Safety and risk assessment 
•Maintenance of IT, software licenses, and computer hardware
•Lab equipment maintenance and repair (e.g. the responsibility to come to the lab when a freezer alarm is set off) and communications with companies
•Mailing, shipment, and packages for the lab
•Participation in lab meetings, lab symposiums, and lab research events including presentations and event planning


Responsibilities and authority:

The person is responsible for managing the administrative tasks of the lab and the administrative tasks associated with the multi-lab primary neuron culture team.
 

Professional qualifications (relevant to the position):

  • Relevant experience working at for example MBG and with primary rat neuron cultures is desirable.
  • Minimum qualification: experience in dissecting the cortex and hippocampus from rat pups, preparing and maintaining neuron cultures at the Dept. of MBG
  • Working language is English and Danish. IT skills in Microsoft office, Outlook, various AU online platforms is a must.


Personal qualifications/social skills (relevant to the position):

Sun lab currently has an international and dynamic team. The person is expected to work well with other team members and participate in various lab social events.
The person is expected to collaborate with other members of the lab and readily assist in their projects.
