Are you interested in atomic layer deposition, solar cells, physics, and microfabrication, and want to be part of developing the next generation high-efficiency solar cells?
Then the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Aarhus University invites you to apply for a 2-year post doc position.

Expected start date and duration of employment

This is a 2–year position from September 1st 2024 or as soon possible.
This is a fixed-term position to end on August 31st 2026.

Job description

Our brand new project, ‘ACES’, aims to use an advanced spatial ALD micronozzle tool for solar cell processing with the aim of developing improved high-efficiency solar cells for the future. The project is an ambitious, cross-disciplinary 3-year project with several partners across industry and academia, in Denmark and abroad. Our main focus at Aarhus University is edge passivation of Si-based solar cells.
  • You will be testing atomic layer deposition strategies with different materials on several different types of silicon substrates and complete solar cells in close collaboration with our industrial and academic partners.
  • You will be fabricating a broad portfolio of silicon and complete solar cell samples with different coatings in a cleanroom.
  • You will participate actively in atomic layer deposition tests on samples at our partner labs in Copenhagen/Lyngby.
  • These activities will be in close collaboration with Danish and international companies and universities.

Your profile

Candidates should hold a PhD in physics, photovoltaics or microfabrication.
  • Experience with Si solar cells is a requirement.
  • Experience with cleanroom fabrication is a clear advantage.
  • Experience with ALD is an advantage.
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate with other partners across disciplines such as solar cell companies, electroplating experts and ALD physicists.
  • Fluency in English, written and spoken, is a requirement.
We are looking for a highly motivated and self-driven candidate with the ability to work independently on new solutions.

What we offer

The department offers:
  • a well-developed research infrastructure, laboratories and access to shared equipment
  • an exciting interdisciplinary environment with many national, international and industrial collaborators
  • a research climate encouraging lively, open and critical discussion within and across different fields of research
  • a work environment with close working relationships, networking and social activities
  • a workplace characterised by professionalism, equality and a healthy work-life balance.

Place of work and area of employment

The place of work is Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Finlandsgade 22, 8200 Aarhus N, and the area of employment is Aarhus University with related departments.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Letter of reference

If you want a referee to upload a letter of reference on your behalf, please state the referee’s contact information when you submit your application. We strongly recommend that you make an agreement with the person in question before you enter the referee’s contact information, and that you ensure that the referee has enough time to write the letter of reference before the application deadline.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to ensure that letters of reference received after the application deadline will be taken into consideration.
