The bioinformatics research center (BiRC) at Aarhus University is looking for a special consultant from 1 July 2024 or as soon as possible. This is a permanent position.

This job is primarily dedicated at creating, deploying and applying teaching material and omics tools on HPC systems. Your main responsibilities would include, for example,- Creation of courses or tutorials using python, R and the bash language
- Deployment of containers on computing clusters (docker, singularity)
- Consultancy in research, student projects, grants applications and external collaborations
- Close collaboration with instructors who need skilled computational/bioinformatics background
- Coordination with other scientific initiatives
- National health data science sandbox
- Core facilities
- The Danish platform for spatial and omics analysis
- uCloud and GenomeDK computing facilities
- teaching organization and digitalization
Your profile
The ideal applicant
- has knowledge of multiple omics fields and analysis applications
- codes proficiently in multiple languages, at least in bash and R or python
- is willing to reach out relevant people to establish collaborations and connections for relevant projects
- can manage multiple projects and hold relevant contacts across them
- possess a service-minded approach to support the ongoing development of courses
- is able to provide autonomously relevant course lectures
- knows containers and virtual machines to deploy stand-alone tools on computing clusters
- communicates well in English and, optionally, in Danish, both in written and oral form
Who we are
BiRC focuses on developing computational methods for collecting, handling and analyzing biological data. Research ranges from formulating models and theories about biological systems, to constructing algorithms and developing computer programs, and requires expertise in many traditional disciplines.BiRC has a strong emphasis on molecular evolution, molecular population genetics, and statistical and algorithmic approaches to bioinformatics, and our research spans from addressing purely theoretical questions, to program development, applications and empirical collaborations.
BiRC is now part of the Institute of Molecular biology, where the opportunities for cross-collaboration and participation to a broader scientific community are within hand reach.
